Gondwanaland (or Gondwana) was an ancient supercontinent that assembled by 600 million years ago, comprising the Southern Hemisphere continents—South America, Africa, Antarctica, Australia, India, and Madagascar. It broke apart in stages starting in the Early Jurassic (180 Ma) and was named after the Gondwana region in India.
