« Back to Glossary Index

An equinox occurs twice a year (around March 20–21 and September 22–23) when the Sun is directly above the Earth’s equator, resulting in nearly equal12-hour days and nights globally. During this event, the Earth’s axis is tilted sideways relative to the Sun, causing the sun to rise due east and set due west.
