Waterlogging occurs when soil becomes saturated with water, filling all air spaces within the root zone and forcing out oxygen, creating anaerobic conditions. Often caused by poor drainage, excessive irrigation, or heavy rainfall, it harms plant growth, leaches nutrients, and decreases soil fertility, while also creating breeding grounds for pests and diseases.
