« Back to Glossary Index

Pangaea was a supercontinent that existed approximately 300 to 200 million years ago, assembling all of Earth’s major continental crust into one landmass surrounded by the Panthalassa ocean. Formed by plate tectonics, this “all lands” mass broke apart during the Mesozoic era into Laurasia and Gondwana, eventually creating the modern continents.
