The Paleozoic Era (“ancient life”) was a transformative geological era spanning approximately 541 to 252 million years ago (mya), characterized by the explosive diversification of life in the oceans, the colonization of land by plants and animals, and the formation of the supercontinent Pangaea. It ended with the devastating Permian-Triassic extinction event.
