The B horizon, commonly known as the subsoil, is a distinct layer in the soil profile located beneath the A horizon (topsoil) and above the C horizon (parent material). It is characterized by the accumulation of materials such as clays, iron, aluminum, and organic compounds that have been leached down from the upper layers, a process known as illuviation.
